Caring for Nicaragua
For the last ten years, I have been traveling with our church to Nicaragua to work with Because We Care Ministries. This ministry does an incredible job reaching out to rural villages all over northern Nicaragua and southern Honduras. Over the years, we have seen a lot of progress in the villages. We have seen so many lives changed through village ministry, through the model farm, and through pastor training.
It has been exciting to see the transformation. However, with the political events and civil unrest of the past year, much of that progress has been lost. This year we saw real hunger in the villages. And we experienced true gratitude for providing medical care and hot food. Unemployment has dramatically increased this year, and the villages are growing as many people return to their village from the city.
That’s why this year’s MannaFest is so important. The hunger and the need continues to grow, and Don and Pam and the BWCM team are faithful to meet that need. Will you consider giving this Christmas season to help provide food to those in need? For only $10, a family of six can be fed for an entire week! Think about that! If our family goes out to eat at a restaurant, it is rarely under $50. For that amount, 30 people can be fed for a week.
You really can make a difference. I have developed so many great friendships with the pastors and leaders in both Honduras and Nicaragua, and I encourage you to help support them in their time of need. Our family will be donating, will you? Go to www.bwcm.org to donate.
James 2:15-17 (ESV)
15 If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food, 16 and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, be warmed and filled,” without giving them the things needed for the body, what good is that? 17 So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.
