Music as a Language
Luke shared this TEDx video with me last week. Victor Wooten is an incredible bass player and I have enjoyed listening to him play over the years. In this video, he shares a unique concept about learning how to play an instrument. Luke loved this, and it really fits his style of learning. Instead of structured practice, Wooten shares the

My Favorite Blog
I have a new favorite blog. My 16 year old daughter has started writing and sharing her thoughts through her new blog. She writes about her journey of faith and issues of self-identity, relationships, struggles, and temptations. Emma has a gift with words, and she has a great outlook on life. She is a very special young woman, and I

ShadowGrass – The Future of Bluegrass is in Good Hands
My 14 year old son plays in a bluegrass band called ShadowGrass. We were in Nashville last week for the SPBGMA bluegrass convention. It was a great experience and Luke’s band was able to do a lot of late night jamming. They also were able to play a showcase for the group Tomorrow’s Bluegrass Stars. One of the attenders posted

Pre-order the new CD for Splitting Cedars
From the beginning, Cornerstone has been blessed with a number of talented young musicians. Earlier this year, several of our youth won a local competition and were blessed with 30 hours of recording studio time with the Audio Lab run by Brett Sexton here in Galax. They have just finished up their first CD, with 6 tracks, and it is incredible.

What I’ve Been Doing This Week
I started a month long sabbatical this week (I’ll be posting thoughts on it here on the blog as well) This week I have been reading, relaxing, and enjoying a lot of old-time and bluegrass music. Our town hosts the oldest and largest fiddlers convention in the world each year. It’s a huge event, with people camping all week long
Happy 4th of July
These ladies were at Cornerstone back in December. Enjoy their newest video and enjoy your day with family and friends celebrating our freedom.

Moth and Rust by Dogwood & Holly
Today is the release day for the new album by Dogwood & Holly. If you have been following my blog for a while, you have seen several videos of their performances. This group consists of four students (and former students) from Liberty, including two of our young adults from Cornerstone, and their newest album is simply amazing. I had the privilege of

Look Up
I have cut back on the number of posts here on the blog over the past year. It has been an intentional decision based on the time I have available after pastoring a church and spending time with my family. God has been teaching me about the importance and power of relationships in our lives. I think we are at an important

Book Review: Overwhelmed by Perry Noble
I finished reading a pre-release copy of Perry Noble’s new book Overwhelmed a few weeks ago. I’ve always enjoyed listening to Noble preach, and I have been able to visit NewSpring on several occasions for conferences. This book really caught my interest because of where I’m at in ministry and life. I really liked that Perry is open and honest

Book Review: What They Didn’t Teach You in Seminary
I finished this book a few weeks ago and wanted to share my thoughts. This is the type of book I really enjoy. I love learning from other experienced pastors, and this book is full of practical wisdom and advice. I was especially interested in this book since I recently finished up my seminary degree. The author, James Emery
