Just saw this over at Josh Griffin’s Blog. The scary thing is I can relate to this guy! White and Nerdy.
Church Land, Baptism, and Swimming Pools
But I Was Safe …
Church League Softball, you can’t help but love it and hate it. We had our last game last night. It was only the second game that I was able to be there and play. And we actually played great and won. Of course I ended up doing something stupid. Have you ever seen a cartoon where the guy is running and his upper body keeps getting farther and farther ahead of his legs. Well, that is pretty much what happened to me. I was trying to run out a grounder and I kept speeding up down the first base line. By the time I got to the bag there was no stopping. My center of gravity had created an overturning torque on my legs and the next thing I know I was sliding head first. It would have looked cool if I was sliding to home plate. But tripping and sliding after you cross first base is really kinda goofy. The good thing, I was safe. The bad thing, I had to spend about 20 minutes in the shower scrubbing and picking dirt and rocks out of my right knee. It’s hard to keep all that extra weight under control! In high school, I was one of those guys who was good in a lot of sports, but not great in any of them. But I don’t think I ever had trouble standing up. Again, it sucks to get old.
But not to be outdone, I had to slide into second later in the game. On this try, I got my left knee banged up. I told my wife when I got home and I think her response was “Well that’s gonna feel good at the beach next week” But honestly, it was fun. That’s something only a guy can understand. Getting out and reliving your glory days playing basketball or softball is a blast. We’ve had guys pull hamstrings, quads, run into the fence, and get banged up all year, but they keep coming back. I even had my brother snap a picture of my battle wound last night. But remember, I was safe …

Scary
I’m hitting refresh every few minutes on my computer this morning to keep track of what’s going on at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg. An inmate who was taken to the hospital escaped and has already killed two people. He’s running loose on the Virginia Tech Campus this morning. It’s the first day of classes, so I’m sure it’s mass confusion. One of the guys I work with has a daughter at Tech (she was in my youth ministry as well) and she called this morning and told how she was going to class at Squires and was turned away by the police. They had their weapons drawn and were looking for the suspect. The campus is in a lockdown. Scary stuff. We live in a crazy world. It hits home when it’s your college and you have a ton on former students there. Here is the news story that is being updated every few minutes.
Grilled, Honey, or Crispy?

I had an interesting misunderstanding while ordering at Arby’s this weekend. We just had a new Arby’s open up, so Jennifer and I headed out on a hot date to check it out (without the kids I might add). I guess you can tell there’s not much to do around here. Well I ordered a Chicken Bacon Swiss and the lady asked me “Grilled, Honey, or Crispy?” Well I didn’t know that had it any way other than fried, so I asked “What is Honey?” She then proceeded to tell me Grilled or Crispy. I said Crispy and went on. While this was going on, my wife was about to laugh herself silly. Since I was kind of agitated that it took forever to get my order in, I didn’t even realize what she was saying. She was calling me “honey” Oh well, I guess I looked like a “honey” Anyway, that’s why I love the South.
Cool Experiment
I know everyone has probably seen this video by now, but I still think it’s pretty cool. The engineer in me wants to try this. Maybe even a youth experiment? Who’s bringing the diet coke & Mentos? Check out the link for details on how they set it up.
ISmell?
For the guy that has everything. Here’s the link from ilounge.
Unquestionably in the running for the “weirdest iPod accessory ever” award, Atech Flash’s iCarta improbably combines an iPod speaker dock with a toilet paper holder. Four total “moisture resistant” speaker drivers are found in the unit’s left and right sides, while separate docks for Dock Connecting iPods and the iPod shuffle are found on top.
