Music as a Language

Luke shared this TEDx video with me last week. Victor Wooten is an incredible bass player and I have enjoyed listening to him play over the years. In this video, he shares a unique concept about learning how to play an instrument. Luke loved this, and it really fits his style of learning. Instead of structured practice, Wooten shares the importance of immersion in music. He compares learning an instrument to learning a new language.

This is some good stuff, and it really makes you think about the philosophy of most music lessons. I find it interesting that this is how traditional and bluegrass music has been passed down from generation to generation.
