Crazy Love Book Study – Chapter 1

February 20th, 2009 Mike Leave a comment Go to comments

We had our first life group study tonight for Crazy Love. We had quite a few people who were unable to attend so I decided to post the videos here and also to use this as an online discussion group each week. Our assignment for next week is to read through the first chapter. You can add comments below if you have questions or if you would just like to share your thoughts. Think of this as a group discussion that continues throughout the week. I’ll add my comments on the chapter as I read through it again. And here’s the cool part, it’s open for anyone to add comments, even if you aren’t in our life group. If you’re adventurous, then you can check out an online book discussion with plenty of comments and discussion about the first two chapters of the book at this site.

Here are the videos we showed tonight. They give you a glimpse of what the book is about and who Francis Chan is. We had a great discussion time and I’m excited about the next 10 weeks. Also, our group will continue to meet at 7pm each Friday night. Join in on the discussion.  Watch all 4 videos in the playlist below.

My wife and I just got the Crazy Love book today and eagerly await sitting down to read it. Videos shown Friday night were awesome! Impressed me to the point I had to learn more about the author….seems to be a great motivational speaker while challenging us to live the Christian life we should. I apprecaite getting to know those in the group better and apprecaite Pastor Mike bringing this Crazy Love book to the church.

There are some great quotes in this chapter that really make you stop and think. Here are a few that really caught my attention.

"We are a culture that relies on technology over community …"
"God will not be tolerated. He instructs us to worship and fear Him."
"Isn't it a comfort to worship a God we cannot exaggerate?"
"Can you worship a God who isn't obligated to explain His actions to you?"
"God hates and must punish sin. And He is totally just and fair in doing so."
"He (God) cannot be contained in this world, explained by our vocabulary, or grasped by our understanding."

After reading the chapter, watching the first chapter video at http://crazylovebook.com, and reviewing these quotes, how do you think you are doing in your relationship with God? Do you need to slow down, stop praying, and just worship God in wonder and awe? I'm looking forward to Friday night.

Just noticed ya'lls "discussions" and classes over the material in this book. I've just completed reading this awesome book! My husband is reading it now. I can't wait for you guys to experience the personal growth that I am sure you will obtain from it. It was a book that I couldn't put down, seriously, I read it in two afternoons. But I'm dying to read it again…slow it down some and digest it more…it was too excited the first go around….(I'm a little compulsive…you should see me at a buffet…overloaded plate and have not tasted a thing until I realized I'm stuffed). There is soooo much information to absorb, and realization…wow…anywho, if my husband would hurry it up. He's having to read it a little at a time and then think on it. This book gives credit where credit is due…to Jesus Christ and our God! After reading it, I have really examined the fact that I was putting too much emphasis on what God could do for me and not on the fact of what I should be doing in his glory. EVERYTHING is not about me…duh…It is about Jesus and God….Glory to the Highest. By the way, I am blonde…nuff said.

Thanks for the comments – Like you, I read straight through the book the first time. I'm enjoying reading back through it chapter by chapter. The discussions in our group have been great so far. Thanks again

Awesome, I need to hurry up and post updates for the later chapters as well. I'm getting ready to lead a group of older high school and college students through the book. It's amazing how the internet can connect Christians across continents. I pray that you will have an incredible study with those girls. Thanks again

I just found your site and was wondering if you received a study guide with your dvd. We’re starting our study tonight but when I ordered the dvd there was no study guide with it and from the ordering information I was expecting one. So I was just wondering.

Browse the dvd in your computer. I think the study guide is a pdf file on the disc. You should be able to print it out from there. I hope you have a great study!

I love Christ, and I cannot imagine a God so great who will unconditionally love someone who commits sins. A God so great, who sacrified his OWN SON, in leau of all of our sins. HE grants us eternal life and I am ever so thankful. I've recently devoted my life to Christ, I wanna walk with him and I want him to guide me through this chaotic world known as life. With him, anything and everything is possible.

Give christ a chance. Thank you Francis Chan for such a beautiful novel.
