Up In The Air

I finally got a chance to listen through a new CD by a good friend that I work with. Brandon Davis (check out his website) has finished his first solo CD titled Up In the Air. If you like listening to incredible guitar playing, then this is a CD you need to listen to. From the smooth songs, Gracie’s Lullaby and Evan’s Smile that he wrote for his children, to the fast and furious competition tunes Whiskey Before Breakfast? and Sweet Georgia Brown, Brandon just blows you away with his talent. What I like about Brandon’s playing is that there is so much expression in his playing. There are jazz, blues, and rock influences blended into traditional bluegrass picking. So much of bluegrass flatpicking is fast but it has no emotion. Brandon is able to truly bring the guitar to life in the songs on this CD.

Brandon is joined on the CD by Andy Leftwich from Ricky Skagg’s band Kentucky Thunder, Rob Ickes from Blue Highway, Sammy Shelor from Lonesome River Band, his dad Gary Davis on bass, and the Singing Gravely’s on vocals.
And to top it all off, Brandon is a great Christian guy and a good friend. If you get a chance, pick up his CD around Galax, or let me know and I’ll get you one!

Check out the picture of Gracie and Evan on the swing that is on the album cover.
