Music Review: Decemberadio

While I’m talking about CD’s, I want to mention the new release from Decemberadio. I downloaded the CD from ITunes where it stayed in the top 10 in Inspirational Music for several weeks. It has slipped down to the top 30 now, but still selling strong. First off, these guys really rock, like old school rock. Listening to them takes my back to my high school days listening to all the different Southern Rock bands. The CD opens with Can’t Hide, an in your face driving guitar song about turning from your sin and not hiding from God. I especially like the slower ballads Drifter and Least of These. They really rock with songs like Dangerous, Alright My Friend, Razor, and Greed. The band has been compared to The Black Crowes, Led Zeppelin, and AC/DC, but they really have developed a style of their own. They have a sound that has been missing from the Contemporary Christian Music scene.

The really cool part is that the band is from Southwest Virginia, only an hour from where I live. Our church has several ties to the group as well. The lead singer is a cousin of two of the girls in our youth group, Brittany and Hannah. Sam’s son Curtis used to be the drummer for the group before he joined the army and went to Iraq. It’s great to see a local band from the mountains of Virginia hit it big. Pick up their CD at Wal-Mart or Target or download it from any of the major music services.
